Template:Box

A callout for a note or a warning. Renders the lz-note style defined in MediaWiki:Common.css.

This replaced the old hand-pasted <div style="border:3px solid #ae8c55…"> wrapper, which was removed from all 22 articles on 2026-08-09. That wrapper enclosed the whole article body and had been rendered invisible by the site CSS; this template is for actual callouts instead.

Parameters

Parameter Required Description
1 (or text) yes The note text. Positional works for plain prose.
type no warning gives the red treatment. Anything else, or omitted, gives the default amber note.

Usage

{{Box|Keep rootCA-key.pem on the CA host only.}}

{{Box|type=warning|Any process running as this user can take root without a challenge.}}

A caveat worth knowing

Template parameters treat | and = as syntax. Text containing either — which is common here, e.g. on | off or ALL=(ALL) — must be escaped:

  • use &#124; in place of a literal |
  • use 1= to name the first parameter when the text contains =
{{Box|1=Set underscores_in_headers on | off; the default is off.}}

This is precisely why article bodies were never wrapped in this template — a whole page of shell commands passed through a parameter would break in dozens of places. Keep Box for short callouts.
